Brittain Arnold Simms, 86, of Orlando passed away on Friday, January 26th at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Talladega, Alabama on April 29, 1931 to Catherine McMillan Simms and Benjamin Arnold Simms. His family moved to Orlando in 1944. Britt attended Orlando High School where he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Fields when he was a senior and she was a sophomore. Brittain Arnold Simms, 86, of Orlando passed away on Friday, January 26th at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Talladega, Alabama on April 29, 1931 to Catherine McMillan Simms and Benjamin Arnold Simms. His family moved to Orlando in 1944. Britt attended Orlando High School where he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Fields when he was a senior and she was a sophomore. He was an outstanding athlete at OHS and earned all-state honors in three sports his senior year. He was offered an athletic scholarship to the University of Florida where he became a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Upon graduation, he married his high school sweetheart on July 18,1953. He then enrolled in Officer Candidate School with the United States Navy where he served four proud years before being honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. During his term in the Navy, Britt and Mary Ann had their first two children, Cindy and Steve and upon leaving the military life, moved back to Central Florida and where their children Bobby and Patty were born. Britt began a successful career as a founding partner of Cooper Simms Nelson & Mosley Insurance where he worked for 40 years and had many honors and awards bestowed upon him. Britt was also a founding Director of First National Bank of Winter Park where he served until the bank was sold. Britt was an avid golfer and at one point, was considered by many to be one of the best amateurs in the state of Florida. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Ann and his four children Cindy Traynham (Ernie), Steve Simms (Ava), Bobby Simms (Karon) and Patty Porter (Preston), his 10 grandchildren Annie Moore (Daniel), Molly Carlson (Craig), Britt Traynham, Christy Voll (Michael), Bo Simms (Abby), Katie Collins (Ryan), MaryJane Simms, Robert Simms, Elizabeth Porter and Mary Paige Porter and eight great-grandchildren, Britt and Colette Voll; Hank, Hayes and Hill Simms; Brock and Ann Hembree Moore; and Hadley Ann Carlson. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 on Friday, February 2nd at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Orlando.
